A Dhaka court on Monday rejected a bail petition filed by actor Md Neyamot Ullah Bhuiyan, alias Zaher Alvi, in a case accusing him of abetting the suicide of his wife, Afra Ibnat Ikra.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Shahjahan Kabir passed the order after hearing the petition, Additional Public Prosecutor Harun Ur Rashid confirmed.
Alvi was sent to jail on 30 June after completing a two-day remand in the case.
Earlier, on 24 June, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Al Beruni Mir granted police a two-day remand to question him.
On 18 June, Alvi surrendered before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin and sought bail. The court rejected his plea and sent him to jail.
Ikra, 33, a social media influencer, was found hanging at their residence in Mirpur DOHS on 28 February 2026. She was taken to Kurmitola General Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
The following day, Ikra's father, Kabir Hayat Khan, filed a case with Pallabi Police Station against Alvi and his mother, alleging that they had instigated her to take her own life. The complaint further alleged that prolonged family disputes and mental abuse had driven Ikra to suicide.
