2 Jubo League men remanded over NCP rally bomb blast
A Dhaka court on Tuesday granted a two-day remand for two Awami Jubo League leaders and activists arrested in connection with a molotov cocktail explosion at the venue of the National Citizen Party's (NCP) July March rally in Savar.
Dhaka Judicial Magistrate Tajul Islam Sohag passed the order after hearing remand and bail petitions, confirmed Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Bahaj Uddin of the court's GR branch.
The accused are former Jubo League leader Md Nurul Islam, 52, and Jubo League activist Md Sajib, 32.
Earlier in the day, the investigation officer, Savar Model Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Shakhawat Imtiaz, produced the two before the court and sought a 7-day remand for further questioning.
Lawyers for the defence opposed the remand plea and sought bail for the accused, while the prosecution argued in favour of remand. After hearing both sides, the court granted a two-day remand.
The case was filed on Monday night by Salamat Ullah Rony, member secretary of the NCP's Dhaka distrint north unit, with Savar Model Police Station against unidentified individuals over the explosion.
According to the case statement, miscreants detonated cocktail bombs on Monday night at Tarapur Ground in Savar, where the NCP had organised its previously announced July March rally.
Three party leaders and activists were injured in the explosion and were later rescued and taken to hospital for treatment.
NCP Convener Nahid Islam, MP, along with other central leaders of the party, addressed the rally as chief guest.
