Heavy rain, hill runoff leave large parts of Chattogram waterlogged

Persistent heavy rainfall, combined with hill runoff and high tides in the Karnaphuli River, has triggered widespread waterlogging across Chattogram, severely disrupting normal life and transport.

Large parts of the port city remained inundated on Tuesday, leaving office workers, students, airport-bound passengers, pedestrians and daily wage earners struggling to reach their destinations.

A visit to several areas of the city in the morning found roads submerged under knee- to waist-deep water.

Many commuters were seen rolling up their trousers or carrying their shoes as they waded through the floodwaters.

Several motorcycles and private vehicles broke down after being submerged, causing traffic congestion on major roads.
