Four dead after fishing boat capsizes in Bay of Bengal
Four fishermen died on Monday after a fishing trawler capsized in the deep waters off Kutubdia, Cox's Bazar, while fishing in rough weather in the Bay of Bengal.
One fisherman still remains missing, while seven others were rescued alive.
Mohammad Faruk Hossain, the Investigation Officer of Kutubdia Police Station, said the four recovered bodies have been sent to the hospital. Local fishermen are continuing search operations at sea to locate the one fisherman who is still missing.
The accident occurred at around 4:30 a.m. on Monday in the deep sea, far off the coast of Kutubdia. The fishing trawler, FB Fakira Masjid, owned by Nurul Absar of Baraghop Union, had set out to sea with 12 crew members. The trawler sank in the early morning amid adverse weather conditions.
Following the accident, seven fishermen were rescued alive, but five were initially reported missing. Later, with the assistance of local fishermen, the capsized trawler was located and brought back to the shore at around 9:00 p.m. on Monday. A search inside the trawler led to the recovery of the bodies of four fishermen.
