The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has used drone technology to deliver food and cash assistance to people stranded in remote, waterlogged areas of flood-hit Habiganj, while also providing free medical services, relief supplies and veterinary care..

On Monday, the Habiganj Battalion (55 BGB) carried out the humanitarian assistance programme in several flood-affected villages of Sujatpur Union under Baniachang upazila, according to a press release.

As part of the programme, around 400 families received free medical treatment, essential medicines and health advice. Relief supplies were distributed among 200 families, while cooked meals were provided to another 200 families. A separate medical team comprising veterinary specialists also conducted health check-ups and provided necessary treatment for around 150 livestock.

During the day-long programme, the BGB used drone technology to quickly and safely deliver dry food and cash assistance to people stranded in remote, waterlogged areas.

The humanitarian operation was led by Habiganj Battalion Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Md Tanzilur Rahman.

Habiganj Deputy Commissioner Dr GM Sarfraz attended the programme as the chief guest and inspected the humanitarian and technology-driven initiative on the ground.

"The free medical camp, veterinary care and drone-assisted relief distribution conducted by 55 BGB are highly timely and commendable initiatives for flood-affected people. Through these efforts, vulnerable people have received free medical treatment, essential medicines, health advice, food and financial assistance. This humanitarian and technology-driven initiative by BGB is a model example of disaster response," the deputy commissioner said.

Lieutenant Colonel Md Tanzilur Rahman said the Habiganj Battalion had been working with the highest level of professionalism, sincerity and humanitarian commitment to ease the suffering of people affected by the flash floods caused by continuous rainfall.

"Alongside border security, BGB has continued rescue operations, evacuation to safe shelters, distribution of food and safe drinking water, emergency medical services, restoration of damaged communication networks and the delivery of necessary relief assistance. In coordination with the district administration and all relevant agencies, BGB personnel have been working tirelessly in the field.
