US-Bangla to resume Dhaka–Kathmandu flights in September

Updated on

US-Bangla Airlines is set to resume scheduled flights on the Dhaka–Kathmandu route from September, ending an eight-year suspension of services on the sector.

Initially, the private carrier plans to operate four weekly flights using Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

Confirming the development, US-Bangla Airlines General Manager (Public Relations) Kamrul Islam said preparations for the launch were in the final stages and that a formal announcement would be made soon.

The airline's return to the Dhaka–Kathmandu route after nearly eight years is expected to boost competition on the Bangladesh–Nepal sector, where only a limited number of airlines currently operate scheduled services.

US-Bangla suspended flights on the route following the crash of Flight BS211 at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on 12 March 2018.

The Bombardier Dash 8-Q400 aircraft, operating from Dhaka, crashed while attempting to land in what remains one of the deadliest accidents in Bangladesh's civil aviation history.

The resumption of flights to Kathmandu is seen as part of US-Bangla Airlines' broader strategy to expand its international network. It follows the airline's recent plans to enlarge its fleet and launch services to new international destinations, marking another significant step in its overseas expansion.
