Govt plans discounted Biman tickets for expatriate cardholders

The government plans to offer discounted Biman Bangladesh Airlines tickets to holders of the proposed expatriate card as part of efforts to improve services for Bangladeshi migrant workers.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam announced the plan at a meeting at the Secretariat on Tuesday on preparations for introducing services linked to the expatriate card.

She said the government had taken a policy decision to provide special discounts on Biman tickets and access to the Balaka Lounge for expatriate cardholders.

“We are committed to ensuring hassle-free air travel services for expatriates,” the minister said.

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat said the government also plans to introduce priority check-in and priority boarding facilities for expatriate cardholders at airports.

He added that the ministry is considering offering special discounts for expatriates at hotels and motels run by the Bangladesh Tourism Corporation.

Expatriates will be able to access these facilities through the government's expatriate card, officials said.

The meeting was held to discuss the responsibilities of airport-related agencies in implementing the expatriate card, a government initiative aimed at expanding services for Bangladeshi migrant workers. Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury and senior officials from the two ministries attended the meeting.
