PM forms committee to address textile sector’s issues

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Wednesday formed a high-level committee to review the challenges facing Bangladesh's textile industry and recommend measures to address them.

The decision was taken during a meeting with leaders of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) at the Prime Minister's Office in the Bangladesh Secretariat, Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu said.

During the meeting, BTMA leaders outlined the current state of the textile industry, its export potential and the key challenges confronting the sector.

They highlighted the industry's contribution to the national economy and sought government support to ensure its sustainable growth. They also called for policy measures to strengthen the sector's competitiveness in the global market.

Tarique praised the textile industry's role in driving industrialisation, creating employment and boosting export earnings. He assured industry leaders of the government's continued support for the sector's development.

Among those present at the meeting were BTMA President Shawkat Aziz Russell, Vice-President Shamim Islam, former President A Matin Chowdhury, former Director Syed Enayet Kabir, Engineer Rajib Haider, Directors Chowdhury Mohammad Hanif Soyeb and Badsha Mia, Amanat Shah Group Chairman Helal Mia, and Munnu Fabrics Managing Director Samiul Islam.
