Court sets 30 Aug for Salman Shah murder probe report
A Dhaka court on Thursday set 30 August for the submission of the investigation report in the murder case over the death of film superstar Salman Shah.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana passed the order after the investigation officer failed to submit the report on the scheduled date.
The case was filed on 21 October 2025 by Salman Shah's maternal uncle, Mohammad Alamgir, with Ramna Police Station, accusing 11 people, including the actor's wife, Samira Haque, under Sections 302 and 34 of the Penal Code.
The other accused are Aziz Mohammad Bhai, Latifa Haque Lusi, Dawn, David, Zaved, Faruk, Ruby, A Sattar, Saju and Rijvi Ahmed Farhad.
Earlier, on 20 October 2025, the 6th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge of Dhaka, Md Jannatul Ferdous Ibn Haque, ordered Ramna Police Station to treat the case over the death of Chowdhury Mohammad Shahriar, popularly known as Salman Shah, as a murder case and submit an investigation report.
The court also ruled that the earlier unnatural death case stood cancelled and revoked under an order passed on 31 October 2021.
According to the case statement, on 6 September 1996, Salman's parents, Nilufar Zaman Chowdhury (Neela Chowdhury) and the late Kamar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, along with their younger son Shahraan Shah, went to the actor's New Eskaton residence to visit him.
Upon arrival, Salman's wife Samira and a domestic aide, Abul, told them that he was asleep. Film producer Siddique had also come to see the actor. The family decided to return later on their way to Sylhet.
Later that day, production manager Selim telephoned Kamar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury and urged the family to return immediately, saying something had happened to Salman.
When they reached the house, they found Salman lying motionless in his bedroom while several unidentified women were rubbing oil on his hands and feet. In another room sat Ruby, a relative of Samira who owned the nearby Mayfair Beauty Parlour.
According to the complaint, Salman's mother urged those present to take him to hospital immediately, but one of Samira's acquaintances allegedly shouted at her to leave the house.
The family then took Salman towards Holy Family Hospital, where they noticed marks around his neck and that his face and legs had turned blue. His mother insisted on taking him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival, saying he had died some time earlier.
Following the incident, Salman's father initially filed an unnatural death case. On 24 July 1997, he petitioned the court, alleging that his son had been murdered and seeking registration of a case under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
After his death, Mohammad Alamgir continued the legal proceedings on behalf of Salman's mother under a power of attorney.
