Police constable responds to fatal crash, discovers victim is his own son

A police constable in Kishoreganj was confronted with the tragedy of finding his own son's lifeless body after responding to the scene of a fatal road accident involving a schoolboy. 

The accident occurred around 10:30 am on Friday in front of Abdul Wahed Janata Government Primary School in the Gaital area of Kishoreganj town.

The victim, Tuhin, a fourth-grade student at the school, was fatally struck by a cement-laden truck while crossing the road, according to police and local witnesses.

His father, Constable Shamsul, who serves at Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station, was dispatched to the scene after reports of the crash. Upon arriving, he realized the child killed in the accident was his own son.

The constable broke down in tears beside his son's body as fellow officers and local residents tried to console him. Witnesses described the scene as heartbreaking.

Mohammad Abul Kalam Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station, confirmed the incident to Daily Waadaa.

"Constable Shamsul responded to the accident as part of his duty. After reaching the scene, he came to know that the deceased child was his own son. It is an extremely tragic incident," the OC said.

Police have seized the truck involved in the crash, while the driver fled the scene. Efforts are underway to arrest him.

The tragedy comes amid persistent concerns over road safety in Bangladesh. According to the Road Safety Foundation, at least 438 people were killed and 561 injured in 472 road crashes in June alone, with motorcycles accounting for the largest share of fatalities. 

The foundation's annual report also found that 7,359 people were killed and 16,476 injured in road accidents across Bangladesh in 2025, highlighting the country's continuing struggle to curb deadly crashes despite repeated calls for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and safer road infrastructure.
