BGB foils fresh BSF attempt to push six people into Bangladesh

Bangladesh's border guards said on Saturday they had thwarted an alleged attempt by India's Border Security Force (BSF) to push six people into Bangladesh through the Maheshpur border in Jhenaidah, according to a Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) press release.

The BGB said the incident occurred at around 5:10 a.m. near Border Pillar 55/MP in the Samanta Border Outpost (BOP) area under the Maheshpur Battalion (58 BGB). It alleged that personnel from the Singamora Camp of the 59th BSF Battalion attempted to force six unidentified individuals, four men and two women, across the border into Bangladesh.

According to the BGB, a patrol team from the Samanta BOP detected the attempt and immediately took up positions at the scene, preventing the group from entering Bangladesh. The border force said its swift response effectively foiled the alleged push-in attempt.

The six individuals were later positioned about 20 yards inside Indian territory from the zero line, the BGB said, adding that it had informed the BSF and requested necessary action.

The BSF did not immediately comment on the allegations.

The BGB said it remains on high alert to prevent illegal border crossings, push-ins and other cross-border crimes, adding that patrols, surveillance and operational activities along the frontier are continuing.
