Ctg crime kingpin David Emon arrested in Jashore

Police arrested four people, including alleged Chattogram crime kingpin Mobarak Hossain Emon, also known as David Emon, from Jhumjhumpur area in Jashore town early Wednesday while they were reportedly attempting to flee to India.

The identities of the three other arrestees could not be confirmed immediately.

A joint team of Detective Branch (DB) and Kotwali Police conducted the raid at around 4am and arrested the suspects, said Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Mirajul Islam.

According to police, David Emon was the alleged mastermind behind a recent extortion attempt targeting the owner of an internet service provider (ISP) in Chattogram. When the businessman refused to pay the demanded amount, the establishment was allegedly attacked, vandalised and looted, prompting law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts to arrest him.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspects reportedly told investigators that they had planned to cross into India through the Jhikargacha border, Mirajul said.

The four were handed over to Chattogram District Police at around 10am on Wednesday and were later taken to Chattogram under tight security.

Law enforcement agencies describe David Emon, the son of Md Musa of Kanchannagar area in Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram, as one of the most prominent figures in the city's criminal underworld in recent years.

Police said he was a key member of the criminal network led by alleged crime kingpin Sajjad Ali Khan, widely known as "Boro Sajjad", and had established influence in Bayezid Bostami, Panchlaish, Chandgaon, Patenga, Hathazari and Raozan areas of Chattogram.

According to police, David Emon is wanted in multiple cases, including those involving murder, attempted murder, extortion, illegal possession of firearms and other criminal offences.
