Defense Adviser to the Prime Minister Brigadier General AKM Shamsul Islam has praised the achievements of the Chinese People's Liberation Army's (PLA) modernisation and the longstanding friendship between Bangladesh and China.

He also expressed gratitude for China's support for Bangladesh's defence development.

The remarks were made at a reception hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka on Wednesday evening to mark the 99th anniversary of the founding of the PLA.

The event was attended by Prime Minister's Adviser Md Ismail Zabiullah, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen, Defence Attaché Senior Colonel Du Xinsheng, and nearly 300 guests, including senior military and government officials, diplomats and other distinguished invitees.

Addressing the reception, Du said that under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the PLA has remained committed to building a strong military with Chinese characteristics, providing robust support for safeguarding China's national sovereignty, security and development interests, while contributing to regional and global peace.

He said China remains committed to a good-neighbourly and people-centred policy towards Bangladesh and is actively working to build a China-Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era.

Du added that China is willing to deepen exchanges and cooperation with Bangladesh in defence and other sectors.

The speakers commended the progress made in the development of the Chinese armed forces and expressed hope that the Bangladesh-China partnership would continue to deepen in the years ahead.
