Ex-NBR member Matiur indicted in graft case

A Dhaka court on Monday framed charges against former National Board of Revenue (NBR) member Matiur Rahman in a graft case, formally opening his trial.

Dhaka Divisional Special Judge BM Tarikul Kabir passed the order and fixed September 14 for the recording of witness testimonies.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case against Matiur on December 15, 2024, accusing him of concealing information on assets worth 1.27 crore taka and amassing illegal wealth amounting to 5.28 crore taka.

The anti-graft body submitted the charge sheet on February 3, 2026.

Matiur came under intense public scrutiny in 2024 after his son reportedly booked a sacrificial goat worth 15 lakh taka ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, triggering widespread debate over the family's wealth.

On January 15, 2025, detectives from the Detective Branch (DB) arrested Matiur and his first wife, Laila Kaniz, from the capital's Bashundhara Residential Area.
