Parasailing suspended in Cox’s Bazar; case filed against ‘Fly Air Sea Sports’

The Cox’s Bazar district administration on Sunday demolished the facilities of 'Fly Air Sea Sports' and seized its equipment following the death of a tourist in a parasailing accident a day earlier.

A case was also filed on Sunday by the sister of the deceased tourist, Shouvik Roy, said Sheikh Mohammad Ali, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station.

The OC said the case names Md. Farid, director of 'Fly Air Sea Sports', as the principal accused for allegedly operating parasailing services in violation of an official ban. Four to five unidentified individuals have also been named as accused.

The investigation has been assigned to the Tourist Police.

Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Abdul Mannan said on Monday that all parasailing activities in the district would remain suspended until further notice.

Authorities alleged that parasailing operations had been conducted without complying with mandatory safety measures, putting tourists at significant risk.

The fatal accident occurred on Saturday (August 1), when parasailing was allegedly being operated on Cox’s Bazar beach despite a ban. Shouvik Roy, a tourist from Khulna, fell into the sea during the ride and died.

Over the past several years, multiple tourists have been injured in parasailing incidents in Cox’s Bazar after falling into the sea or becoming entangled in the tops of casuarina trees, raising repeated concerns about safety standards and regulatory oversight.
