The investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Thursday submitted its probe report in a crimes against humanity case over the attacks on unarmed students at Dhaka University (DU) during the July uprising, naming eight accused, including former DU Vice-Chancellor Prof ASM Maksud Kamal and former Shahjalal University of Science and Technology professor Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal.

Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim confirmed that the investigation report was submitted to the Chief Prosecutor's Office.

Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Aminul Islam said the report is currently being scrutinised by the prosecution and that formal charges will be filed before the tribunal after the review is completed.

Among other accused named in the report are former Justice ABM Nizamul Huq, DU Sociology Professor AKM Jamal Uddin and former Bangladesh Chhatra League General Secretary Wali Asif Inan.

The accused are alleged to have incited violence and provided direct and policy-level support for the attacks on protesting students.

The prosecution said the investigation agency prepared the report after a lengthy inquiry that included collecting documentary evidence, analysing video footage and recording witness testimonies.

It said the report details the alleged role and level of involvement of each accused in the incidents.
