Khalilur seeks UNDP support to tackle LDC graduation challenges

Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman on Thursday expressed hope that the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the broader UN system would support Bangladesh in addressing the challenges associated with its transition from the Least Developed Country (LDC) category.

He made the remarks when newly appointed UNDP Resident Representative to Bangladesh Stephen Rodriques presented his credentials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to a ministry press release.

Welcoming Rodriques, Khalilur congratulated him on his appointment and reaffirmed Bangladesh's commitment to working closely with UNDP to advance shared development priorities.

The foreign minister praised UNDP's longstanding contribution to Bangladesh's development, saying the organisation has played a vital role in supporting the country's progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Rodriques reaffirmed UNDP's commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Bangladesh government and commended the country's significant socio-economic achievements and leadership in promoting sustainable development.

The UNDP resident representative also congratulated Khalilur on his election as President of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), describing it as a reflection of Bangladesh's growing international standing and constructive role in the global community.
