Describing his first meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman as fruitful, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi on Monday said the people of Bangladesh and India share a common desire for good relations.

“It was our first meeting, but it didn’t seem like the first time we were seeing each other,” Trivedi told reporters after the meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

Trivedi expressed confidence that Bangladesh and India would have good days ahead.

“I have always said that we don’t only share borders, we share dreams,” he said.

Asked about the possibility of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visiting India, Trivedi said the invitation remains in place. However, he declined to comment on whether the Prime Minister would attend the outreach session of the BRICS Summit, scheduled to be held next month in New Delhi.

“We are positive that if the two leaders meet together, there will be discussion,” he said.

“There is not an issue between Bangladesh and India that we can’t settle by sitting together,” he added.

It was Trivedi’s first meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman since the latter assumed office in June.

Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and the Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir were present at the meeting.

The High Commissioner also met Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed after his meeting with the Prime Minister.
