Six police officers, including Biplob and Sudip, dismissed

The government has dismissed six police officers, including two former joint commissioners of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), for remaining absent from their workplaces for an extended period.

The Home Ministry announced their dismissal through separate gazette notifications issued on Wednesday, August 12.

The six dismissed officers are Biplob Kumar Sarker, a former DMP joint police commissioner who was attached to the office of the Barishal Range DIG; Sudip Kumar Chakraborty, another former DMP joint police commissioner attached to the Barishal Range DIG office; Mohammad Iqbal Hossain, former deputy commissioner of DMP’s Wari Division who was attached to the Khulna Range DIG office; Kazi Ashraful Azim, former deputy commissioner of DMP’s Uttara Division who was attached to the Chattogram Range DIG office; Rajan Kumar Das, an additional superintendent of police with the Armed Police Battalion in Cox’s Bazar; and former DMP Assistant Police Commissioner Md Golam Ruhani.

The six officers have been absconding since August 5, 2024.

Among them, Biplob Kumar Sarker, Sudip Kumar Chakraborty and Iqbal Hossain have been convicted in cases before the tribunal.
