Police to remand Ridhika Ridhi’s boyfriend in abetment case
Police have sought to keep model and actress Ridhika Ridhi’s boyfriend, Hasibur Rahman, in jail in a case filed over alleged abetment of suicide following her death at her Bashundhara residence in Dhaka on Saturday.
The investigating officer, Bhatarа Police Station Sub-Inspector Abdul Wadud, made the application before a Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Sunday. Prosecution police Sub-Inspector Kamal Hossain said the application will be heard before Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam.
Police arrested Hasibur from Ridhi’s residence on Saturday. Bhatarа Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mazharul Islam confirmed his arrest.
In the application seeking Hasibur’s detention, the investigating officer said the initial interrogation and investigation had produced “sufficient information and evidence” supporting the allegations made by the complainant.
The application also stated that Hasibur had allegedly confessed during questioning and admitted his involvement in the incident. Police said he needed to remain in custody as the investigation was ongoing and expressed concern that he could flee if released on bail.
Ridhi was found unresponsive at her residence in Bashundhara Residential Area on Saturday morning. According to police, family members took her to Kurmitola General Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Ridhi’s mother filed a case with Bhatarа Police Station on the same day, alleging that her daughter had been encouraged to take her own life. Hasibur was named as a defendant in the case.
According to police, Hasibur had gone to Ridhi’s residence to meet her on the day of the incident and was arrested from there. The preliminary investigation also found that Ridhi had been on a video call with her boyfriend around the time of the incident.
Police said that while the incident initially appeared to be a suicide, they are investigating the circumstances surrounding Ridhi’s death and the reasons behind it. The investigation will also examine whether anyone encouraged or pressured her to take her own life.
Ridhi worked as a model and had appeared in several television dramas, including Ekhane Manush Bikri Hoy, Bahurupi, Double Honeymoon and Sundori.
