Two pipe bombs defused in Demra
The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Sunday night defused two live pipe bombs recovered from the Demra area of the capital through controlled explosions.
Acting on a tip-off, a CTTC team arrested Jewel alias Ostad from the Nizhumbagh area of Demra around 8:30pm and recovered two pipe bombs from his possession, said DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Niaz Mehedi.
Later, members of the CTTC bomb disposal unit reached the spot and safely neutralised the devices through controlled explosions using detonating cords, he said.
The bombs were defused after taking necessary safety measures, the police official said.
No one was injured and no property was damaged in the incident.
Legal proceedings against the arrested person are underway, according to the CTTC.
