Qatar assures Bangladesh of support for energy security as Khalilur meets Qatar PM

Qatar on Wednesday assured Bangladesh of extending all possible support to ensure the country’s energy security, particularly amid the current challenging global circumstances.

The assurance came during a meeting between Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani at his office in Doha.

During the meeting, Khalilur conveyed the greetings of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to the Qatari leadership, and invited the Qatari Prime Minister to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time.

He also expressed Bangladesh’s solidarity with Qatar and appreciated its constructive and responsible role in promoting peace, security and stability in the region.

Sheikh Mohammed congratulated the foreign minister on his election as President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly and reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to providing support and cooperation to help him successfully discharge his responsibilities.

Discussing bilateral relations, the Qatari Prime Minister described Bangladesh as a “brotherly country” and assured Dhaka of Qatar’s continued cooperation, particularly in the energy sector.

Later, the Foreign Minister held a separate meeting with Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, where they discussed issues of mutual interest.

Bangladesh Adviser to the Prime Minister for Finance and Planning Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir, and senior officials from both countries were present at the meetings.
