President Mirza Fakhrul begins official activities at Bangabhaban
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir began his official activities at Bangabhaban on Sunday for the first time since taking the oath as the head of state.
The President arrived at Bangabhaban at 11:00am, where a smartly dressed mounted police contingent welcomed him at Gate-2.
Later, a smartly turned-out contingent of the President Guard Regiment (PGR) accorded him a guard of honour at the Credential Field.
After the guard of honour, the President was welcomed with bouquets at the Octagonal of Bangabhaban by his Military Secretary Major General ASM Bahauddin, Public Division Secretary AJM Salahuddin Nagari, Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam and PGR Commander Brig Gen Golam Arikul Alam.
After receiving the guard of honour, Mirza Fakhrul proceeded to the office to attend the scheduled official activities.
The programme is part of the President’s official engagements at Bangabhaban.
Veteran politician Mirza Fakhrul was sworn in as the 23rd President of Bangladesh on Friday evening.
The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban at 7:30pm in the presence of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, cabinet members, and hundreds of distinguished guests.
BNP candidate Mirza Fakhrul was elected the President defeating his lone rival Col (retd) Oli Ahmad, the candidate of the 11-party opposition alliance led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, in the presidential election held on August 20.
