BGB returns 2 BSF shotguns, walkie-talkie left behind in Bangladesh

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has returned two shotguns and a walkie-talkie left behind by members of India's Border Security Force (BSF) after they entered Bangladesh territory and allegedly assaulted local farmers in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat.

Lieutenant Colonel Mehedi Imam, commanding officer of BGB-15 Battalion, said the shotguns and walkie-talkie were handed over to the BSF during a battalion-level flag meeting held near Main Pillar No. 907 along Bonchowki-Amjhol border area in Gotamari Union of Hatibandha upazila on Tuesday.

According to locals, several farmers were working in a field near Main Pillar No. 907 on Tuesday afternoon when BSF members entered Bangladeshi territory and assaulted them.

Hearing the incident, local residents chased the BSF members, who fled the area leaving behind two short guns and a walkie-talkie.

Members of BGB's Bonchowki Camp later went to the spot and recovered the weapons and walkie-talkie, taking them into their custody.

On information, Lieutenant Colonel Mehedi Imam, commander of BGB-15 Battalion, visited the scene.

Later, during the flag meeting, BSF representatives expressed regret over the incident following which BGB returned the weapons and walkie-talkie.
