Mirza Abbas acquitted in all 15 corruption cases
A Dhaka court on Thursday acquitted BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas in all 15 corruption cases filed over the alleged irregular sale of 18 government houses and embezzlement of Tk 127.64 crore.
Judge Muhammad Kamrul Hasan Khan of Dhaka Special Judge Court-3 delivered the verdict.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the cases against Abbas and 21 others in 2007, alleging that the houses were sold through manipulated tenders at lower prices, causing financial losses to the government.
The court also acquitted all other accused, including BNP leader Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, saying the charges could not be proven.
