BGB launches drone warfare school in Sylhet

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has launched the 'Shimanto School of Surveillance and Drone Warfare (SSSDW)' in Sylhet to enhance its technological capabilities in border security and surveillance.

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, MP, formally inaugurated the specialised training institution on Tuesday as the chief guest, said a BGB release issued here this noon.

BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui was present at the ceremony.

After the inauguration, the home minister visited the SSSDW complex and display centre, where its acting Commandant Colonel Mohammad Salah Uddin briefed him on the institution's training programmes, modern facilities and operational applications of various drones used by the BGB, the release said.

Later, trained BGB personnel conducted a special 'Drone Maneuver' demonstration at the training ground.

The demonstration showcased the use of drones in the operations of six-member patrol teams, including detecting and apprehending smugglers, preventing push-ins, and identifying and controlling unauthorised or unidentified drones using an anti-drone system.

The event concluded with a drone fly-past featuring Mavic and other drones recently incorporated into the BGB.

The BGB expects the SSSDW to develop skilled personnel in surveillance and drone operations and strengthen technology-driven border management.

The specialised institution will also enhance the force's operational capabilities and promote innovative technologies in border security, the release added.
