US President Donald Trump has expressed his desire to meet Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman “in the not-too-distant future”, while thanking him for Bangladesh’s decision to purchase Boeing aircraft.

In a letter dated August 31, 2026, addressed to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Trump said he had received the Bangladeshi leader’s letter concerning the aircraft purchase and appreciated the decision.

“I just received your letter concerning the purchase of Boeing Aircraft, and very much appreciate your decision of purchase,” Trump wrote.

“Boeing will not let you down, and I will not forget,” he said, adding, “I look forward to meeting you in the not-too-distant future.”

The US president also conveyed his “warmest regards and love” to the people of Bangladesh, acknowledging the challenges they had faced.

“They have been through much but, under your leadership, I feel certain that they, and your Country itself, will have a very bright future,” Trump wrote.

The letter comes as Bangladesh moves forward with a major aircraft procurement deal with the United States.

The government signed an agreement with Boeing in April to purchase 14 aircraft for national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines, its largest-ever aircraft order, while also considering leasing additional Boeing planes.

Bangladesh has also said it plans to procure aircraft from European manufacturer Airbus as part of broader efforts to modernise and strengthen the country’s aviation sector.
