A court here today rejected a bail petition of Bidisha Hossain, former wife of late President Hussain Muhammad Ershad, in a flat sale fraud case.

In the case she was sentenced to two years imprisonment for embezzling Taka 75 lakh from a person without handing over the flat, rather giving threat.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Shahjahan Kabir turned down the bail prayer when Bidish’s lawyer sought the bail on condition of filing an appeal against the conviction.

Police arrested Bidisha from a restaurant in Gulshan 2 on August 25. The Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Aminul Islam Zunaid sent her to jail the next day in line with the conviction warrant.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jamshed Alam on May 20, 2026, convicted and sentenced Bidisha to two years’ imprisonment and fined her Taka 10,000 in the case.

According to the case documents, businessman AKM Mosharraf Hossain Shikdar came in a deed with Bidisha in 2001 to purchase Flat 2/B at President Park Complex in Baridhara for Taka 80 lacs. Shikdar paid Taka 75 lakh through a pay order prior to the registration.

Bidisha was scheduled to complete the registration and hand over the flat by July 10, 2002. But she failed to do so.

After delaying the matter for four to five years, she later agreed to refund the money and subsequently issued a cheque, which was dishonoured several times when it was deposited with bank for encashment.

She also allegedly threatened the victim as he demanded for returning the sale-deed, Shikdar told in the case filed in 2008.
