Mirza Abbas returns home after five months of treatment abroad

BNP Standing Committee member and Prime Minister’s Political Adviser Mirza Abbas returned to Bangladesh on Wednesday after spending more than five months undergoing treatment in Singapore and Malaysia.

His flight landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at around 9pm, BNP Media Cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan confirmed.

Shayrul said Abbas is now in relatively good health and returned home following advice from the medical board overseeing his treatment.

Abbas suddenly lost consciousness while drinking water during iftar on March 11. He was admitted to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka later that night after his condition failed to improve.

As his condition deteriorated, he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance on March 15 for further treatment. He was subsequently transferred to Malaysia for advanced medical care.

Abbas was elected to parliament from the Dhaka-8 constituency in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election. He currently serves as the prime minister’s political adviser.
