Woman stabbed to death while trying to stop thief in Cox’s Bazar

A 45-year-old woman was stabbed to death after confronting a suspected thief who broke into her home in Cox’s Bazar’s Maheshkhali on Monday night, police and local sources said.

The victim, Shilpi Rani Shil, was the wife of Rabindranath Shil of Kalagazirpara in Hoanak Union.

The attack took place at around 8 pm when an unidentified man allegedly entered the family’s home intending to steal.

Shilpi spotted the intruder and tried to stop him, according to local sources. As she shouted “thief” to alert others, the man stabbed her and fled.

Her husband and local residents rushed her to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared her dead.

Pratul Kumar Shil, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Maheshkhali Police Station, said police went to the scene after being informed of the killing.

Police have launched an investigation and are working to identify and arrest the attacker, he said.
