Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council mourns death of jailed Chinmoy Krishna Das’ mother

Updated on

The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council on Thursday expressed "deep sorrow over the death of Sandhya Rani Dhar, mother of jailed Hindu religious leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari," and extended condolences to the bereaved family.

Dhar died at around 9.30 am at Pundarik Dham in Hathazari, Chattogram, the council said in a condolence message.

According to the statement, Dhar had been undergoing treatment at a hospital for an extended period and had been grieving over the continued imprisonment of her son. As her condition failed to improve, she was taken from the hospital to Pundarik Dham, where she later died.

Chinmoy Krishna Das remained in Chattogram jail at the time of his mother’s death, the statement said.

The council described the case against Das as “false.” The characterization was made by the organization and could not be independently verified.

The council’s three presidents — Ushatan Talukder, Prof. Nim Chandra Bhowmik and Nirmal Rozario — along with General Secretary Rana Dasgupta, expressed “deep sorrow” over Dhar’s death and conveyed their sympathies to her family.

The statement was issued by Manindra Kumar Nath, joint general secretary of the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council.
