Humaioun Kobir, WHO representative discuss cooperation on health security, disease prevention

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir and World Health Organization (WHO) Representative Dr Ahmed Jamsheed Mohamed on Wednesday discussed strengthening cooperation on public health, health security, disease prevention and access to essential health services.

They held the meeting at the State Minister’s office and discussed matters of mutual interest, with a particular focus on further expanding cooperation in the health sector.

Humaiun underscored the importance of international cooperation and multilateral partnerships in advancing public health and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

He appreciated the WHO’s continued cooperation and support in strengthening Bangladesh’s health sector and addressing emerging public health challenges.

The WHO Representative briefed the State Minister on the organisation’s ongoing and planned cooperation in Bangladesh, including support for health-system strengthening, capacity building, disease surveillance and preparedness for public health emergencies.

Both sides expressed their commitment to further strengthening collaboration between Bangladesh and the WHO and agreed to maintain close coordination on issues of common interest at the national, regional and international levels.
