Nepal remains open, tourists can continue travelling: Ambassador

Nepal remains open to tourists and its tourism industry is largely operational despite recent flash floods in parts of the country, Nepalese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanashyam Bhandari said on Thursday.

He made the remarks as a special guest at the inaugural ceremony of the 13th Asian Tourism Fair (ATF) 2026, which began in Dhaka on Thursday.

Highlighting the resilience of Nepal’s tourism sector following the recent flash floods, Bhandari encouraged tourists to continue travelling to Nepal.

He also stressed the importance of strengthening tourism cooperation and expanding people-to-people exchanges between Bangladesh and Nepal.

A 10-member delegation comprising representatives from Nepali tour operators and travel agencies is participating in the three-day fair, being held from September 17 to 19 at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB).

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat attended the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest.

The fair, endorsed by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism and supported by the Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (BPC) and Bangladesh Tourism Board, features more than 200 organisations from 10 countries, including Bangladesh, across nearly 300 booths in three halls.

Hotels, resorts, tour operators, travel agencies, airlines, public and private tourism organisations and foreign missions are showcasing their products and services, along with special offers for visitors.

Cultural performances from Bangladesh, Nepal and the Philippines will be held every evening during the fair.
