One detained over death of Comilla University teacher’s son
Police have detained a teenager after recovering the body of the 13-year-old son of a Comilla University teacher from a nearby hillock in Cumilla.
Sub-Inspector Mohibul Alam Bhuiyan of Kotbari Police Station said Tuhin, a resident of the Salmanpur area under Sadar South Police Station, was detained on Saturday for questioning in connection with the incident.
Earlier, the body of Oprotim, a seventh-grade student and the only son of KM Firoz Shahriar and Dr Nahida Begum, an associate professor in the Department of Bangla at Comilla University, was recovered from a hillock behind Magic Paradise Park on Saturday, around 22 hours after he went missing.
Oprotim left home around 3:30pm on Friday, telling his mother that he was going to Shalban Vihara with friends to take photographs. He was carrying his mother’s iPhone at the time, Nahida said in a Facebook post on Friday.
A local resident, Abdul Kader Jilani, first spotted the body while he was in the area to cut bamboo.
He said they reached the hillock around noon and found a child lying on the ground with bloodstains on his body. They then informed university student Abdullah Al Mamun, who went to the spot with others and subsequently informed police.
