Three children die after father allegedly poisons them in Sunamganj

Three children have died after their father allegedly poisoned them before consuming poison himself in Sunamganj’s Tahirpur early Saturday, police said.

The father was rescued in critical condition and admitted to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital.

The incident took place at Rajani Line village under Uttar Badal Union in Tahirpur upazila in the early hours of Sept. 19.

Police and local residents said the man allegedly administered poison to his three children sometime during the night before consuming it himself.

Relatives and neighbours discovered the four in the morning and rushed them to Dr Hafiz Uddin Complex at Badaghat Bazar.

Doctors declared all three children dead after examination.

The father’s condition deteriorated and he was transferred to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital for further treatment.

Hossain Mohammad Arafat, in-charge of the local police investigation centre, said officers reached the medical facility after receiving information about the incident early Saturday.

Police recovered the bodies of the three children, while relatives took their critically ill father to the district hospital, he said.

The bodies are being sent to Tahirpur Upazila Health Complex for autopsies.

Police have yet to disclose what may have led to the incident.
