Bus fares go up by 17 paisa per kilometre

Bus fares have been increased by 17 paisa per kilometre following the recent hike in fuel prices, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam said on Tuesday.

The fare for buses and minibuses in Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas has been raised from 2.53 taka to 2.70 taka per kilometre, he told reporters after a meeting with transport owners.

For long-distance routes, the fare has increased from 2.23 taka to 2.40 taka per kilometre.

In areas under the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA), the fare has risen from 2.43 taka to 2.60 taka per kilometre.

A gazette notification fixing the new fares is scheduled to be issued on Tuesday, and the revised fares will take effect the same day, the minister said.

The government raised the prices of all four major liquid fuels by 20 taka per litre on September 20, with the new rates taking effect on September 21.

Under the latest adjustment, diesel costs 135 taka per litre, kerosene 155 taka, petrol 160 taka and octane 165 taka.
