Tarique begins UNGA engagements with UN chief’s breakfast reception

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman began his first day of engagements at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday by attending a breakfast reception hosted by UN Secretary-General António Guterres for world leaders and their spouses at the UN headquarters in New York.

The breakfast was held at the North Dialogue Lounge at 8am local time, Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu said.

Tarique attended the reception with his wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman.

At the start of the breakfast, world leaders and their spouses joined Guterres and his wife for a group photo, Shiplu said.

Tarique and Zubaida joined them on the stage, exchanged greetings with Guterres and his wife, and took part in the photo session.

The prime minister arrived in New York on Monday evening to attend the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

Following the breakfast, he is scheduled to attend the opening session of the General Assembly and hold a series of meetings with heads of government and state on the sidelines of the session.

According to his itinerary, Tarique will address the UN General Assembly on September 24. It will be his maiden address to the world body as prime minister.

Alongside his UNGA engagements, the prime minister is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings and other high-level engagements with heads of government and state and leaders of international organisations during his visit.
