Cabinet committee approves two G2G urea imports from UAE, Russia for FY27

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Wednesday approved two proposals to import urea fertiliser under government-to-government (G2G) arrangements for the 2026-27 fiscal year.

The approvals were given at a meeting of the committee after it considered two proposals submitted by the Ministry of Industries.

Under the first proposal, the committee approved in principle an amendment to the existing G2G agreement with Fertiglobe Distribution Limited of the United Arab Emirates to allow Bangladesh to purchase bulk granular urea fertiliser on both FOB (Free on Board) and CFR (Cost and Freight) terms during the 2026-27 fiscal year.

The amendment will allow Bangladesh to procure the fertiliser under either of the two internationally used delivery and pricing arrangements.

Under the second proposal, the committee approved in principle the signing of an agreement with Foreign Economic Corporation Prodintorg to import prilled urea fertiliser during the 2026-27 fiscal year under a G2G arrangement.

The decisions are part of the government's preparations to ensure an adequate supply of fertiliser for agricultural production during the 2026-27 fiscal year.
