‘Drugs linked to all types of crimes in Cox’s Bazar, across Bangladesh’: CHT minister

Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Sa Ching Prue has said drug involvement is linked to various forms of crime in Cox’s Bazar as well as across the country, stressing that the government is taking steps to curb drug-related offences.

“Drugs are not just an issue in Cox’s Bazar; they are a nationwide concern. Drug involvement is linked to all types of crimes in Cox’s Bazar as well as across the country,” he said at a special meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday.

Prue called for coordinated efforts and sincere cooperation among the administration, law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders to maintain peace, stability and public safety in the district.

The meeting, organised by the district administration, reviewed government activities related to law and order, drug and corruption control, good governance, transparency and accountability, as well as public welfare and development initiatives.

The minister said closer coordination among relevant agencies could further strengthen peace, discipline and public safety in Cox’s Bazar.

Deputy Commissioner Md A. Mannan presided over the meeting.

Lawmakers Lutfur Rahman Kajal and Advocate Shamima Ara Swapna, Police Superintendent ANM Sajedur Rahman, and senior officials from law enforcement agencies and the administration also spoke at the meeting.

Officials from various government departments, law enforcement agencies, public representatives and other stakeholders attended the meeting.
