Indictment hearing in arms case against Anisul Huq Oct 26

A court on Thursday set October 26 for holding a hearing on charge framing in a case filed under the Arms Act against former law minister Anisul Huq.

Today was fixed for holding the hearing on the matter, but Dhaka Special Tribunal-4 deferred it as the regular presiding judge was on leave.

According to the case documents, the government, through a circular issued on August 25, 2024, suspended the arms licences granted between January 6, 2009 and August 5, 2024, and instructed licensed arms holders to deposit their firearms and ammunition at the nearest police station by September 3, 2024.

If any arms and ammunition were not deposited within the stipulated time, those would be treated as illegal and cases would be filed accordingly.

Police filed the case against Anisul Huq on May 24, 2025, as there was no information about whether the former law minister had surrendered his licensed weapon in line with the August 25, 2024 circular, and no such weapon was found at the address mentioned in the arms licence.
