July Uprising: Court sets Oct 8 for charge framing hearing against Hasina, 33 others in truck driver's murder

A Dhaka court on Thursday deferred until October 8 the hearing on charge framing against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 33 others in a case over the alleged murder of truck driver Hossain during the July Mass Uprising.

The hearing was scheduled for today, but prison authorities could not produce accused Zunaid Ahmed Palak before the court as he was due to appear before the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in another case.

Following a time petition from the prosecution, Judge Robiul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 set October 8 for the hearing.

According to case documents, Hossain was shot in the Chand Udyan area of Mohammadpur on July 19, 2024, while returning home after leaving his truck in the Gabtoli area. He later died from his injuries.

Hossain’s mother, Rina Begum, filed the case with Mohammadpur Police Station on August 31, 2024.

Police submitted a charge sheet on November 23, 2025, against 34 people, including Sheikh Hasina, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former foreign minister Hasan Mahmud and former minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak.
