Rohingya crisis, UN peacekeeping on agenda as PM meets UN Secretary-General

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly on Friday.

Held on the 27th floor of the UN Secretariat Building, the meeting covered cooperation between Bangladesh and the United Nations, significant global and regional matters, and various issues of mutual interest, said a release from the Prime Minister's Office.

Discussions focused on a range of topics, including Bangladesh's development trajectory, addressing the impacts of climate change, finding a sustainable solution to the Rohingya crisis, and Bangladesh's continued contributions to UN peacekeeping, security, and development activities.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman highlighted the importance of UN cooperation and support regarding issues of priority and interest to Bangladesh, the release added.

At the same time, he reaffirmed Bangladesh's commitment to multilateralism, international cooperation, and the goals of peace and sustainable development.

The UN Secretary-General emphasised the importance of further strengthening the long-standing cooperative relationship between the United Nations and Bangladesh. 

Both sides expressed their resolve to continue mutual cooperation and work closely together to address shared global challenges.
