Gas supply to national grid returns to normal

Gas supply to the national grid has returned to normal after liquefied natural gas (LNG) transfer to the floating terminal at Moheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar resumed following an improvement in weather conditions.

“Gas supply returned to normal around 7am on Friday after the LNG cargo successfully resumed gas transfer,” said Petrobangla Director (Operations and Mines) Engineer Md Shoyeb.

At around 2pm, total gas supply to the national grid reached 2,525 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd), with domestic sources supplying 1,607 mmcfd and regasified LNG (RLNG) contributing 918 mmcfd. Supply is expected to increase further, Shoyeb said.

“Gas supply to both industrial and residential sectors has increased. Earlier, gas supply had temporarily been disrupted due to adverse weather conditions,” he said.

LNG transfer from the cargo vessel to the Moheshkhali floating terminal was disrupted on Wednesday because of adverse weather in the Bay of Bengal. The disruption reduced RLNG supply and temporarily lowered overall gas availability in the national grid.

Petrobangla had said the previous day that LNG transfer would resume as soon as weather conditions improved and that gas supply would return to normal.
