Teacher, office assistant relieved in Chandpur over Facebook posts about President, PM

A teacher and an office assistant of Matlabganj Pilot Girls' High School in Matlab South upazila have been relieved of their duties following allegations that they made derogatory and objectionable comments about President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Facebook.

The two are Assistant Teacher (Bangla) Jewel Talukdar and Office Assistant Md Suman.

School managing committee President and Matlab South Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) KM Ishmam relieved them of their duties on Thursday afternoon.

The UNO said a three-member committee has been formed to investigate the allegations and submit its report within two working days.

According to the school and the UNO's office, Jewel made several posts and comments on his personal Facebook account in recent months, including edited images of Tarique and remarks critical of the government that were described as offensive.

He also posted images of Fakhrul, along with comments critical of the government, the sources said.

Suman was relieved of his duties for allegedly commenting on Jewel's Facebook posts.

UNO Ishmam said departmental action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.

Jewel admitted making the posts, saying, “I made a mistake. I later deleted them.”

Head teacher Kazi Md Shah Alam said the school authorities are also investigating the allegations.
