9 arrested over vandalism, looting at Radda health centre; Shah Ali OC withdrawn

Police have arrested nine people and recovered two truckloads of looted goods in connection with the vandalism and looting at the Radda MCH-FP Centre in the capital’s Mirpur area.

Besides, Officer-in-Charge of Shah Ali Police Station Jahangir Alam was withdrawn and attached to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Headquarters on Saturday night over the incident.

DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Akhtar Hossain confirmed the developments, saying the OC was withdrawn for administrative reasons.

According to police, a team from Shah Ali Police Station conducted raids in various areas and arrested nine people in connection with the incident.

Police also recovered two truckloads of medical equipment and other materials looted from the healthcare facility.

However, the names of the arrestees were not released immediately.

Earlier, late Thursday night, a masked group of around 250 people vandalised the 50-year-old healthcare centre in Mirpur-1 and looted medical equipment, medicines, official records and cash before illegally occupying the premises.

Following the incident, a case was filed with Shah Ali Police Station.
