PM Tarique’s India visit likely in third week of Nov: Times of India

India and Bangladesh are looking to schedule a visit by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to India in the third week of November, Times of India reported on Sunday.

The report said efforts to reschedule the visit were likely to gain momentum after the arrival of the new Bangladesh high commissioner, Asad Alam Siam, in the last week of October or early November. 

Citing unnamed sources, the report said the key concern for Dhaka over the visit would be the “unresolved issue of former PM Hasina's extradition.”

It further said Tarique’s birthday greetings to Modi and the latter’s response showed a thaw in the relationship between the two neighbours.

No meeting has been confirmed by either side so far.

PM Tarique has not yet made an official visit to India since becoming prime minister in February 2026.

Bangladesh had received an invitation for him to participate in the BRICS outreach session in his capacity as BIMSTEC chair, and not in his capacity as Bangladesh’s prime minister. 

The government said his first India engagement would be bilateral, when the conditions are favourable. 

India’s continued habouring of fugitive Sheikh Hasina, who has been indicted on five counts of crimes against humanity, has proven to be a pressure point.

Her public appearances have also prompted strong rebukes from Bangladesh.
