Salman Muqtadir studio attack: No incident of extortion, attack over land dispute, police say
Police have said the attack and vandalism at content creator Salman Muqtadir’s studio in Dhaka’s ECB Chattar area was the result of a land dispute involving the owner of an adjacent plot, ruling out extortion as a motive.
Three people have been detained in connection with the incident. They were identified as Mamun, 35, Munna, 29, and Aslam, 30.
Mamun and Munna live in the Bhashantek slum, while Aslam resides in the Majumdar Mor area of Bhashantek, according to police.
DMP Joint Commissioner Mahidul Islam made the remarks after visiting the scene and speaking to reporters on Sunday.
He said the dispute was between New Gini Properties Ltd and the owner of a neighbouring plot and that Salman Muqtadir’s studio was not specifically targeted.
“There was no incident of extortion. Salman Muqtadir’s studio was not the target,” Mahidul said.
Police said no case had been filed in connection with the incident as of Sunday.
The attack took place at around 10:30pm on Saturday at the studio, located inside the New Gini Properties premises at ECB Chattar.
As per the allegation, a group of people entered the studio and vandalised and ransacked various items. CCTV cameras and other equipment, along with mobile phones and wallets, were allegedly taken during the incident.
