6 arrested over attempt to seize house in Adabor

Police have arrested six people on allegations of attacking a building in the capital’s Adabor with machetes allegedly in an attempt to seize it.

Speaking to Daily Waadaa, Adabor Police Station OC Zahidul Islam said they were arrested during overnight raids in different areas of Dhaka on Sunday.

“Five people have already been arrested and brought to the police station, while another person was arrested from outside Dhaka. He is also being brought to Dhaka.” 

The OC, however, could not initially provide the detailed names and identities of those arrested.

A machete has also been recovered in connection with the incident.

On Saturday morning, a group of 15 to 20 people vandalised the gate, windows and closed-circuit cameras at a house in Shyamoli Housing in the Shekhertek area of Adabor.

Relatives of the building owner alleged that after August 5, 2024, a local individual had similarly taken control of the building.

Following legal proceedings at various stages in the court and police, the owners regained possession of the building on March 12. 

Within a few months, the attack took place again.

The incident was captured on video by another closed-circuit camera. 

In the video, a person wearing a mask is first seen talking on a mobile phone. Later, a group of young men carrying weapons arrives and vandalises the three closed-circuit cameras of the house one by one. They are then seen striking the windows and main gate with sharp weapons.
