Ex-Ctg-3 MP Mahfuzur sent to jail in anti-terrorism case

A court on Monday sent former Chattogram-3 MP Mahfuzur Rahman Mita to jail in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ripon Hossain passed the order after police produced Mita before the court following the end of his six-day remand and sought his detention in jail until completion of the investigation.

On September 22, Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam placed Mita on a six-day remand and his driver, Golam Mawla Selim, on a five-day remand in the case.

A team of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch arrested Mita from a house on Road 43 in Gulshan-2 at around 1:30am on September 22.

According to the case documents, leaders and activists of the Awami League, whose activities are currently banned, Bangladesh Chhatra League and other affiliated organisations brought out a flash procession in the Mohakhali area on June 18 and exploded crude bombs.

Police later filed the case with Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station in connection with the incident.
