Ex-Tangail-5 MP shown arrested in July murder attempt case

A Dhaka court on Monday showed former Tangail-5 lawmaker Md Sanowar Hossain arrested in a case filed over an alleged attempt to murder Soheli Tamanna during the July Mass Uprising in 2024.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Karim passed the order as police produced the former lawmaker before the court and pleaded to show him arrested in the case.
According to the case documents, during the July Mass Uprising in 2024, some 200 to 300 activists of the Awami League, armed with weapons, attacked the protesters in the Bhatara Police Station area on the morning of August 5, 2024.
During the attack, Soheli Tamanna sustained serious injuries to her left wrist from gunfire and blows with locally made weapons. She also sustained a gunshot wound to her back.

She was later rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. In connection with the incident, Soheli Tamanna, as the plaintiff, filed an attempted murder case with Bhatara Police Station on July 7, 2025.
